Choosing a name is the first step if you are looking to form an LLC.
Here is the first thing you need to know when naming an LLC:
LLC Name - the big NO NO!
The name of your business cannot be the same as the name of another limited liability company (LLC) on file with your state's LLC office.
Your states LLC office is the usually Secretary of State's office, part of the same division as corporations.
What must be in the name of an LLC
According to Section 105 of the Uniform Limited Liability Company Act The name of a limited liability company must contain one of the following:
- limited liability company
- limited company
It may also contain the abbreviation:
The word "Limited" can be abbreviated as "Ltd.".
The word Company can be abbreviated as "Co.".
check your state law before selecting a name because some states have slight variations upon the above restrictions.
